"A
Passion in Blue" 1 x 50:00
Adventure & Exploration, Human Achievement,
Sports, Science & Technology
Welcome to the fascinating world of World-Record Freediving!
Known as the “Original Extreme Sport”,
freediving is one of the true primal manifestations
of the human spirit. Holding their breaths,
freedivers plunge hundreds of feet below
the sea surface in the ultimate quest to
become the deepest human being alive. For
6-time world champion Yasemin Dalkilic,
however, freediving is not about records
and glory, centering her approach on a very
close love for the ocean, an intimate and
moving relationship with the magical blue
liquid that gave birth to life on our planet.
This documentary follows the real-life
adventure of Yasemin and her support team
of 20 professional scuba divers as she attempts
the hardest dive of her career, a whopping
round trip to a depth of 344 feet. Hanging
onto a weighted sled for her descent, the
diminutive Yasemin plummets at lung-busting
speeds of more than 5 feet per second, to
then return to the distant surface completely
unassisted, a grueling task that inexorably
depletes her oxygen reserves with every
foot she climbs. This can put her in the
danger zone of the shallow-water blackout,
a shutdown which can threaten the validity
of the record, and most importantly, her
life. Set against the dramatic background
of the Red Sea in millenary Egypt, the documentary
shows how this engaging and unassuming young
lady overcomes one obstacle after another
to complete the journey into the deepest
point of her will. The world record she
sets in the climactic finale still stands
today, almost two years after her historic
descent, a true testament to the timeless
nature of such exploits, driven by passion
instead of ego or commercial incentive.
With amazing underwater photography, courtesy
of a complex and unprecedented production
that placed several cameras from surface
to bottom to follow her every move in crisp
digital detail, we are literally “immersed”
into the action. Adding to the sense of
intimacy, the film is narrated personally
by Yasemin and her trainer and inseparable
partner, renowned coach Rudi Castineyra.
But perhaps what makes it even more unique
is the fact that it is a creation of both
Yasemin and Rudi in every sense. While Rudi
wrote, edited and directed, Yasemin, also
a gifted musician, composed and performed
an original score of beautiful music to
accompany her onscreen actions, and the
authenticity of this effort shows through
from beginning to end. Part extreme sports
spectacle, foray into the technology of
deep sea diving, true exploration into the
limits of human endurance and uplifting
tale of achievement over adversity, this
is a show not to be missed!

us when we watch her records on TV. What
a work, what a dedication, what a pace,
what a life style, what a training and what
a passion! She is so in love with what she
does that while telling you about it she
creates the same feelings in you, and only
then you start to understand what that smile
after a record actually means.

- Passion + deep blue abyss + knowledge
+ discipline + team work = Success. This
is the summary the documentary gives us.
But the amazing music Yasemin has created
proves that she has other mysterious depths.
I think she is a talent that will create
echoes in the music world.
Durul Gence - A legend in the Turkish
music industry, this charismatic drummer

Most of us believe that there are aliens
from outer space living among us. After
knowing Yasemin I started to feel different.
I think Yasemin is somebody that came from
the depths of the ocean to live among us.
And in this documentary Yasemin brings us
the mistery and magic of that point where
the dark blue turns into black in the depths
of the ocean.
Sedat Ergin - One of Turkey's eminent
column writers and a department head for
Hurriyet, one of the largest newspapers
in the country.
